New steering box questions?
Hi everyone!
I just replaced my leaking lares 1282 steering box with new unit lares 11282…but i have a problem.
The steering is working fine and all but the steering wheel is off to the right side i would say around 30 degrees.
When i took everything off it was all in center - the wheels and steering wheel… New steering box was centered but when comparing old unit to new i already saw that input shaft was clocked more right than the old acording to flat spot on the input shaft.
I dont think you could mess the install because pitman arm only goes one way cause of 4 notches that are 90 degrees apart and the steering shaft has flat spot that only goes one way.
Now for the question i cant wrap my head around.
If i adjust tie rods to make the steering centered then the input shaft on the new box would be more to the left and so off the box center?
I hope you understand what i mean…
Thank you all.

Re: New steering box questions?
This is what they said…
Hello,
Since there are 4 flats on the sector shaft, the steering wheel would be at center at 12 o’clock. If the gear box would be installed off center, then the only other possibilities because there are 4 flats would be that the steering wheel would be off center at either 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock or 9 o’clock. If your steering wheel is off less than a ¼ of a turn than most likely would be a front end issue.

Re: New steering box questions?
Did you check the box before you installed it to make sure the steering was centered. Put a set of vice grips on the input shaft where the steering column would go. Turn it all the way left. Then all the way right, counting how many complete rotations you turn. Then go back to half the amount of full turns (center). Odds are it didn't ship centered and you installed assuming it was.
