fourth gen frontend swap?

I read that the major difference between 3rd and 4th gen front suspension is the steering setup . My question is can the subframes be swapped and if so is there big difference in handling? I read that rack and pinion steering on the 4th gen is better than the stock 3rd gen setup. Any thoughts?

Yes. Forget about it. There is much more different than just the rack and pinion steering vs. worm & sector ours has. Compare the two in detail and you'll see. Thirdgen: McPherson strut (no upper A-arm), First, Second & Fourth gen's: Upper and lower A-arm suspension and shocks. Yes you COULD spend a lot of time and money converting your superior cornering front suspension to the more supple riding front suspension, but inferior cornering FourthGen version. But, if you really wanted to, it's a lot cheaper just to sell yours and just by a newer F-Body. But either way, have fun with your car. IMO, it isn't worth it. Lon.

Ionsal=The macpherson strut setup is inferior to a Sla, the roll center way way more controlable, the springs and shocks are allowed to be placed in a better position, the camber is way more controlable, plus you have the added benifit of a much more responsive, tighter, lighter steering system.

I will agree that a SLA setup is generally superior to a McPherson strut, but NOT the SLA setup from a 4th Gen. Yeah, rack&pinion steering is nice, but there are other ways.

L.B.C= You mention Camber control, but I was just crawled under a '97 RS and I can't figure out how to adjust the thing without dismantling the suspension. Maybe dropping $600 for some of LG's adjustable A-Arms.

A Third Gen McPherson Strut, while not ideal, is certanly easier to adjust and tune than the Tinker-Toy setup on a 4thGen.
