Mumford link, 3 link and other things

Hey all, I don't post much of my work these days but I wanted to put up some pictures of what I've been doing this spring. Front of the car is mostly complete and I got to mess with the back. I made a new version of the Mumford link I did many years ago as well as some other goodies.

Built a 3 link rear suspension on a full floating 9" axle with coilovers, 3pc sway bar chassis mounted behind the axle, lengthened the LCA's to 25" and some other random stuff. Axle is 68" wms to wms to match the front.

I really wanted to keep the upper link under a stock'ish floor but with the angles involved it just wouldn't work. The crossmember bolts through into the new torque boxes I made for the LCA's and a hard point where the seat belts once went. The saddle bolts through to the reinforcement plate for the parking brake assembly.

I'm waiting for front hubs to arrive so I can assemble the front and put the car on its own 4 tires again for the first time in 3 years. Hope yo be able to start the engine in the next month or so.

these are the torque boxes I made. The goal was to make the LCA as long as I could without completely abandoning the factory torque box location, add a new hard point above where the new 3 link crossmember could attach, and keep the LCA level or lower at the front.

The Mumford link and crossmember next to the previous design from back in 2011 or whenever it was. The old one was on my old 92 which was sold a few years back. It allowed better exhaust clearance but the single shear design for the bellcranks wasn't working out. I broke the 5/8 grade 8 bolts multiple times and clearance to the axle cover wasn't going to work with the new axle. I went with a double shear design which is much stronger but make adjustment of the bellcrank height not as easy. I may go back and tweak this design down the road but it will stay as it is for now. The sway bar is mounted to this crossmemebr as well, keeping it high. The previous version mounted it low which offered better clearances but hung lower and further away from the body than I wanted.

A better picture of the 3 link crossmember under construction and before the floor was built and the 9" floater housing before it was assembled. Ending up with 25" LCA's and a 20" upper for just about an 80% difference in length. The pinion angle stays pretty constant throughout motion.

I also made a new suspension for the front. Used a speedway spindle with modified factory k-member. Added upper control arms, rack and pinion , coilovers, etc.
I'm going to use the factory brembos from the s550 mustang and 15" rotors sourced from a range rover sport. The wheel here is 19x11 +76, plenty of room to turn but I will have to add fender flares as the track width of the car is significantly wider now, about 6" overall.

.

I stuck the 18X12 with a 335/30 i had on the back of this car previously on the front just for giggles. It just barely rubs the front of the fender opening when turning, lol
