When do I need a new suspension?
When do I need a new suspension?
Lately I have been noticing that my car has been riding VERY rough. Especially when you go over bumps in the road, it feels like the car is going to fall apart
. Anyways, the car has 54k miles on it. Do I have to replace the suspension already? I pushed on the rear end, and it made a squeaking noise. And the front struts seem like they aren't even working when I hit a bump. Like when I go over a speed bump, I go over very slow, and when the fron goes over, it likes to bottom out. My dad was telling me that "My 1970 Camaro had 90,000 miles with the original suspension, with no problems." Does it sound like I have to replce my suspension at 54k miles?

My 89 bird does the same thing. So i bought new shocks and when i took out the old one i could push them all the way in and they never came back out. So they were pretty shot. I would say just go over pepboys and u cane get new shocks and struts for real cheap. Also if u really wunt a great ride get a energy suspension bushing set. Good luck
I replaced the factory struts/shocks at 75k, they were dead, gravity would pull them down. I replaced them with Monroe sensa tracs, inexpensive but not hi perf, they're ok for the daily driver, freeway driving that I do. Big difference over the dead GM units.
What kind are they? And where did ya go? My car has 160k on it, and I don't think ANYONE has EVER even LOOKED at the suspension in it, but it has ALWAYS looked like it has had the crap kicked out of it. So, I need ta get some as well (See my Poll and Post), I just wondered what store ya went to ta get an estimate, and what kind they were.

P.S. - What happens to a car that has been driven WAY to long with bad suspension??

I got the estimates from Autozone. $60 for 2 front struts, and Brake Masters has a special going on for 2 new shocks in the rear for $60 installed. They would also install the struts for $70. All of these are just OE equivelent equipment.
