Brakes failed...NEED HELP PLEASE!!!

Twice already my brakes failed on me in two weeks. When I push down on the pedal to stop, the pedal went all the way to the floor. Then when I release, the pressure is back. Only happened twice so far. I checked the lines and everything, no leaks. Everything looks good. Then my first thought was maybe the master cylinder and/or booster. Since they have never been changed (144,000 mi). I then took it to a local shop for a check and they could not find anything wrong either. They also told me that they think it might be the master also, but they wont know that unless they take it apart. What do you guys think?

Also, I am running Baer front TRACK system brakes with dual pistons. What brand master cylinder and/or booster would you guys recommend for the dual piston setup, if that would be the problem. I was told that the stock master cylinder might not be enough to push all the brakes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It definately sounds like a master cylinder problem. I had the same problem with the brakes going to the floor and pumped it back up again. The problem with mine was the ring seals were moving in and out of place, hence the lost and the regain of pressure.

well I can't help you figure out your problem but I checked on autozone.com

and a new/rebuilt master cylinder is

FENCO_REMAN - $34 + $15 core
RAYBESTOS - $119 - 1 year warranty

and brake booster is

A-1
W/O MASTER CYLINDER - $82

or you can get both for $170 + $35core charge... (also from A-1) , but your autozone or other parts dealer would help you better.

dunno man , I haven't seen pics of yoru car , but spending $200 sure is better than hitting a wall at 60mph because your brakes failed

in any case , I would definitely suspect the master/booster problem... and since most shops these days charge $60/hour it might just be cheaper to replace both yourself.

Thanks to those of you who replied. And I do plan on replacing it myself. Just a FYI, I spoke to Baer Brakes and they said that it sounds like the master if not the booster or both and that the stock master cylinder and booster is enough to push the Baer Track system. They said that the Track system was built to work with the stock specs.

Thanks again.
