My sectioned 84 Z28
Hey all i used to work in a body shop and the a buddy of mine worked on the body a little and he pointed out that the car had been sectioned (bassically sliced in half and welded back together) i guess cause it saves some shops money to put a whole *** end on a car then replacing the body panels. anyways does anybody have any advice for me about this (besides to get rid of it!!) do subframe connectors help? does anyone know... im not too much of an expert i worked in painting and dent repair so i dont know too much about sectioning. oh welll
I'm not an expert in this stuff, but from what I understand sectioning if done properly can be fine and maintain the integrity of the car. The problem is that its usually not done well... poor weld quality, bad alignment of the sections, etc. Have you checked your frame dimensions on this car? I'd reccomend getting rid of it, espicially since you havent really done any mods and dont have any money into it yet.

People usually think that the welds in a sectioned car weakens the frame, but I remember reading an article once that discussed how sectioned cars can be more dangerous in accidents because the welds are actually stronger than the surrounding metal, and the car folds in the wrong spots.
If a bodyman looked at it and said it was dangerous then be afraid, very afraid. It probably was not put together properly. Take out the back seat and check to see if the floor was welded all the way across or if it was a crappy job. Law of the 7 P's. **** Poor Planning Provides **** Poor Performance. If it looks bad then it was probably not done correctly. I wish you good luck finding another car.
