Brake Booster Hose
Brake Booster Hose
The other day I unplugged the brake booster hose and I plugged it back in and ever since I did that the brakes are really hard and I can not shift out of park. I also noticed that the idle is surging. Am I supposed to do something special because I unplugged the hose? HELP.
You dont need to do anythign special after disconnecting the vacuum hose to the brake booster, except for make sure its not leaking when you put it back, which is exacty what your problem is. You've got a vacuum leak and not full manifold vacuum is getting to the booster causing increaded pedal effort. This is also why you have the surging idle. I'm guessing the shift out of park problem is that you have a brake transmission shift interlock and you arent/cant press the pedal down far enough to trip it.
Ok I checked out the hose and it looks fine. The brakes now seem to be a bit softer but I still have that surging idle and I still can not shift out of park. Can it be something else?

Need more info, why did you have to disconnect the line in the first place? What were you working on? Sounds like you may have accidentaly disconnected another vacuum line. As far as not being able to shift out of park, I'm not sure about the thirdgen auto's but on the second gen there was a lever on the column right by the brake booster connected to the shift linkage. Not entirely sure about the exact setup, havent worked on a 2nd gen in quite a while and I dont know if they ever used the same basic setup.
