Hood/Hatch Struts

Ok, my Advance Parts hood & hatch struts have sh*t the bed in less than 2 years. I want to replace them with GM's from the parts department. Are the GM ones any better? I heard that they will last about 5-6 Years & are MUCH stronger. Any ides?
Also I heard that the GM's will actually LIFT the hatch off the lock, any truth? That would be a nice thing.

My hatch ones from Autozone lasted about 2 years, and new they lift my hatch all the way open by themsleves. I don't know about the GM parts.

Go to Kragen/Shuckers. The struts from them are just decent, however they have a life time warranty. I just replaced mine after the originals failed at about the three year mark and they swapped them out, no problem!

Oooh, working hood struts... I should buy a pair. I got a free working set when I wrecked my car and bought a parts car (what a deal, eh?)... now they barely work. Hm...

i got a set of both from shucks autoparts. i'll see how long they last. the hatch struts lift the hatch of the lock just fine. but they are expensive.

My point is with the lifetime warranty who cares how long they last or even if they cost little more! Free for as long as you own your car is good enough for me! Pluss they lasted about three years after the first time I purchased them.

Hey Lasersi,

Seeing this post reminded me that I need new rear hatch struts. Anyways I went down to Kragen yesterday to pick up a set for my car, well the manufactures book that they keep on display gives one part number for my car and their computer gave me another. The problem is that the part number the book gives they can't order for what ever reason it's not available. The model their computer gives me is for the rear defogger type which I don't have. What year is your car and do you know the part number to your struts? I was considering going with GM replacments but for $100 bucks each theirs no way. Hell I can get a set of front KYB performance struts cheaper than that.

Sorry, I don't have the part number. The new struts I just got are a little different from the first ones and they changed the sticker which doesn't have the number on it any more. I have an 89 GTA, however the only difference between the defrost struts and the non-defrost struts are two little tabs for the defrost wire. They should be the same fit on both cars. When you get yours just remove the tabs.
