springs with close to stock ride height?

I just replaced my rear shocks with KYB gas adjusts. The stock ones were so horrible that after I unbolted them they compressed and I had to pull them apart! I'm still hearing a loud twanging noise in the back when I hit large bumps. I figure the springs are shot from taking all the weight, since the shocks weren't doin sh*t. I want to find some that aren't too harsh and keep close to the same ride height (less than an inch drop) Any suggestions? I was also wondering if I could install them myself or if I'm better off having a shop do it. Thanks.

Please, anyone? Eibach, Intrax, and Hotchis springs all lower your car atleast an inch.

I heard a while back that NAPA Auto parts can order stock type springs, worth a try.
