12 bolt/84' disc backing plates
I have just purchased a used (not much) Summers Bros. 12 bolt rear, 3.73 posi, alum driveshaft, and South Side Machine lift bar set for my 89' RS. VERY stoked, as you can imagine!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This setup came out of an 84' Z. The rear has the baking plates for 84' GM discs. No calipers/rotors. So, now is my chance to upgrade, if possible.
1) Is there a bolt-on set of calipers made by Wilwood or Baer , or other that I can put on theses backing plates?
2) Should I just get a set of used calipers, and put on the recall kit? (cheapest route, I'm sure)
3) Is there a later/better year of factory caliper that will bolt-on?
4) How much of a pain is a proportioning valve to put in? and can I put one in near the rearend and not under the booster?
I know it's a lot of questions, but I need to figure this out before I start!!!! Don't wnna hear the "archive" answer....cause if I had time to do that....you wouldn't be readin this!!!!
Thanks in advance.....

1. Most aftermarket upgrade kits replace the backing plates, but I think Baer has something that's almost more of a cosmetic upgrade that would fit.
2. That would certainly be the cheapest way to do it.
3. It depends on what you mean by bolt-on. You could probably use 10-bolt backing plates for an 89-up car and put the bigger rotors and PBR calipers.
4. It's pretty easy, bleeding everything afterwards is the most annoying part. It pretty much has to go in the front since the front brakes connect to it as well.

If you have a 12 bolt rear 93+ z28 rotors, calipers, and backing plates are a simple bolt on. If you have noticed most aftermarket 12 bolts require the newer brakes. And the 98+ rear brakes are supposed to be better than the 93-97, hope this helps
