stuffing big meats in the back
stuffing big meats in the back
I need to go to a taller tire. I was thinking about running a 295/60/15 instead of my 275/60/15. I'm either gonna roll the fender lip OR cut it right off. I also need to raise the rear about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. Can i just use a coil spring spacer pad? I wanna raise it cheap, keep in mind only a little, not like the disco stance of the 70's
. Any cheap creative ideas to raise the rearend a bit would be greatly appreciated.

The 275/60/15 is 28" tall. I run that size on the rear of my truck. 295/60/15 is 28.9" tall. That's only adding about 1/2" more to the outside of the tire. Check how much clearance you have with the old tires and determine if there's 1/2" more room.
You could use air bags in the rear springs to raise it up.

Right now I'm running 275 60's on mine and I don't have any rubbing problems at all. I'm sure I'd have the clearance to run a slightly taller tire. I don't know how cheap you want to go, but I'm running with new 85 IROC springs in the rear with CE 3 way adjustable shocks. It sits with a slight rake and is stiff enough to keep the rubbing away.

I have 275/60r15's on my Firebird, on 15x8 wheels, but then again, I also have air shocks. I lowered my air shocks down when it snowed early in the season; and I forgot, and backed down my driveway too fast.
When the rubber hit the street, the left rear tire BIT into the quarter panel lip. It took a chunk out of the tire, AND peeled my quarter panel lip down. By doing that, it cracked the perfect Bondo job I had done. If only that happened on the rusted-up passenger rear quarter... the driver's side quarter was PERFECT. (sigh)
Search for messages in this forum, written by me, that talk about "air shocks". I've posted an idea for raising the coil springs. Someone also told me that I should compare spring part #'s between our cars, and cars that DO have high-lift rear springs available, to see if one will fit on our cars.
