The noise is going to be a combination of a lot of things. The bigger culprits is anything loose (screws and bolts that have backed out a bit over time), especially inside the doors (like the lock and latch rods). Go over the whole car and tighten down any bolt or screw that you can find. Try to use recommended torque specs when you can (you can find them in any cheapo repair manual or on this site if you don't mind wading through countless searches but want to save a few bucks. Next is bushings, bearings, and moving parts like doors, hatch, where the latches meet the strikers. Then exhaust components rattling because of rotted or missing hangers. Then suspension components that have rotted or missing bushings (end links, sway bars, control arms). Going over the weatherstripping with a weatherstrip dressing or something like silicone lubricant can help get rid of squeaks, as well as hinges with a lubricant like engine oil (as recommended by the owners manual or repair manual) or white lithium grease (as recommended by anyone else). Get a lube job or invest in a grease gun and hit all the Zerk fittings on your suspension. Also, clear loose junk out of the car's interior, trunk, storage compartments, spare tire storage, etc.

All of this together with some subframe connectors and good shocks/struts should make for a very quiet car.

SFCs should be the first suspension mod to any car just aquired. Definitely a must-have.

Yes, as far as popular opinion here is concerned, it's true.
