Engine surging

Hope you guys can help me out. Here lately when my car is at an idle it starts to surge, like it's getting a shot of fuel. It also does it when driving after about 20 minutes or so. When I'm cruising down the highway between 55 & 70, it is hard to keep a steady speed (it keeps surging). I was thinking that my fuel pump was going bad, but wanted to make sure it wasn't something else. I had to change a fuel pump on an 86 camaro before and know how much of a pain it is. Iwould love to hear your opinion on the subject. Thanks!

could be numerous reasons concerning engine components and sensors or fuel. Does it do it during cold engine warm up? Is there black smoke from exhaust? Check all conditions to narrow feild. Possibles fuel filter ignition coil distributor cap and rotor spark plugs electronic ignition module coolant temp sensor map sensor idle speed control motor All may not apply to your car, Guessing game GOOD LUCK

my reply didn't show up the other day

this happened to me, turns out it was the plugs and wires, make sure they are all getting spark, change the fuel firter, that should help you eliminate some of the guesses

I've changed the fuel filter and it has helped a bit. Next up I'm gonna tackle the plugs and wires as soon as it dries up to where I can lay on the ground. Thanks for all of the advice given!
