E.T. is more an indication of driving skill than power. Launch, and shifting have more to do with it than anything.

MPH is more of an indication of power which is probably why your mph was identical

If you spun off the line or something, this would account for your high E.T.

16.3 stock is pretty good actually, there have been a lot of 16.5-16.8's. 15.8 is pretty rare stock

ouch - All I got is a dual snorkle air cleaner (L69 style). I ran 16.622 @ 82.55 (1.219 reaction - hey! it was early, I was asleep!), with a 2.542 60' time, so if yer running 16's with a new cam, and a cat back, somethings not tuned right, IMO

I have got an 88 sport coupe (looks like an iroc) that is completely stock with auto. and 2.73 grears. It has 137,000 miles on it and I am pulling 16.4's with a mph of 82.9. My 60 ft times are around 2.35 and 2.4. I didn't think this was all that bad for my car. I have put an open element and I bet with just that I could pul 16.2's...

1/4 ... 16.573
MPH ... 82.16

duhh, forgot to mention mods:

Open element air cleaner with K&N.

reaction time has nothing to do with et. your reaction time is how long it take syou to get the car from sitting still to out of the little electric light beams that start the timer. the et is calculated from teh time your car leaves those liught beams until it breaks teh beams at the oither end of the track.
if you have a cam and you are runnign that et and mph you have soem serious set up issues.
my car ran 15.9 @ 84.9 stock. that was with good late fall air, shifting myself at 5000, and a ton of practice hoel shots in the week i had the car befor ei made it to atco

later

wow, that LT1 cam really doesnt seem to help all that much. And assuming you havent done any rear work (posi, or LCA relocation and what not), your 60' isnt that bad...

He is not getting anything from that cam because his exhaust system sucks right now. If you throw on an aftermarket cam with a 2.25" exhaust system, your not gonna notice much cause the exhaust system is to restrictive. Throw on a full 3" system and some headers and it will wake up.

try 2.2 60fts with a peg leg and 2.56 gears!

My ET was 16.599@ 81mph with a stock engine from the TBI to the exhaust manifolds. Oh yeah, the car is a 91 civi Caprice

I do not see how that's possible! I can nail my L05 off the line on that sticky track and pull of a 2.1 60'. But my point is, I'd have to really want to spin the tires to do so. I just can't see how an L03 with those horrible gears could pull that off...I believe you though.

Sheeeeeit Tim, I hope you were drunk or dead tired or something, because that is a record number of typos. And especially for a moderator!

I'd agree on the exhaust being the problem for TBI cars. The first mod should be headers, 3" cat, and 3" catback. Then attack the rear end with a posi and gears.

That time is off....if your car really is stock. It's not the Gtech that's off....I have one, and it's always w/in .1 sec. Where did you test this? Was the road you were on a little downhill maybe? Because I've NEVER heard of a stock TBI running quicker than a 15.9.

Im running 16.182 at 83.40 mph I think, lol I forgot my time.

My best stock time (sans K&N) was 16.4 at 80.40 mph. I think I can dip into the 15s if I figure out my suspenion stuffs.

When my car had the stock LO3, I ran a 16.1. I got it down to a 15.3 w/ a few bolt-ons and a 3.73 posi (stock heads and cam)before I blew a head gasket and scrapped the 305 for a 350.

My Mods: Holley Pro Jection Intake, Lunati 218/458 cam, TES, Catback, LCAs, APHR, Wonderbar, Intrax springs, B&M Shiftkit, Open 14x3 w/K&N, JET Stage II chip, 9bolt w/3.70's

The only pass I made on a Dragstrip was a 16 flat @86mph. This was before the cam and intake swap and the 3.70's, and when I was very nervous. I know the car was capable of 15.7's easy w/ some practice. As soon as I get a chance Ill get some new times with the new cam, and intake.
