I have reason to believe my ecm is going crazy here are the problems I have been having:
1. Injectors not spraying and no start(after new pump and relay)
2. Fan doesn't come on at times, now is completely gone
3. SOME gauges give increasingly faulty readings
4. 2500-3000 rpm hesitation
5. No hi-beams or horn
6. Airbag codes and SES light (blinks twice really quick)
Sometimes I'll be driving and then the car will not restart
It did this today and I disconnected and reconnected
the battery terminal and it started fine.
IF this is the ecm should I just get a new off the shelf prom
or do I need the entire unit?
thanx in advance

I agree it sounds like an ECM but there are other things going on too. Jumper the A&B terminals in the ALDL connector to see what codes you are getting before you swap the old ECM. That way your not chasing around any other problems. You could have a short somewhere that caused the ECM failure and could have fried some sensors. Don't get too worried it's only a possibility. The high beams and horn shouldn't be related to the computer but if something is burn't it could. You should only need the ECM and not the prom like NJ said.
As far as the fan goes that should be a self supportive system. If you determine that the ECM is bad and the fan is still not working there are three easy steps to determine where the problem is. First turn the ignition to the on position, you don't need to start it, and turn on the AC. If the fan fires up you have a bad coolant temp switch. If it doesn't pull the plug out of the fan and check for voltage. If no voltage the relay is bad. It's located on the passenger side firewall in front of the blower motor. If you get voltage then your fan motor is likely bad, you can run wires direct to be sure but thats probably it. If you don't have AC then you'll have to get under the car and pull the connector to the temp switch. If it is a single connector take a piece of wire and ground it out then follow the other steps above.
Good luck and post how it goes.

You can get an ECM at your local parts store or direct through GM. Most have a year warranty. You could find one out of a salvage yard but you never know what your getting.

Napa has just about everything, but theyre much more (almost twice usually) for the same brand parts as Autozone and Advanced and they wont price match. I go there for the oddball stuff I can't find anywhere else.
