I have a 3.08 limited slip rear end in my 89 TA 5 spd 305 with headers. I wasnt to go faster but I dont want to lose top end speed. I was thinking about getting posi and leaving it a 3.08. I dont have a lot to spend so getting gears is too much. I was wondering if a rear end out of a iroc or gta might have a 3.42 posi and be cheaper. Also if I do change my gears how much top end speed will I lose, and how much will my spedo. be off?

You're speedo will be slightly off, all you need is a speed drive sensor from the car with the same gears as you.

A 3.42 car would be a manual TPI car (or 3.45 if it's a BW rear)

Posi=limited slip. Open diff is one wheel spinning.

from a six cyl. car with 3.42 and add the SLP posi. I think that's
what I'm going to do. I was thinking about going with 3.73 but
this seems like a very good idea, and way cheaper!!!

i wouldnt open that thing up unless you were planning on getting gears put in it and a posi

 

i got the 3.42 gears put into my bird with the T5 and SLP posi. It made me smile like McDonalds does.
