New heads with LT1 cam

Im getting the LT1 cam in a week and i went into a performance shop to ask about the timing chain and valve springs (which is all i need to install it right?) and the guy told me that without new heads or head work, the cam wont work? is this true?
he also said without doing any other mods it might not fit or give me any difference at all. so far I have full 3inch exhaust from the engine, 3.73 posi, and k&N

The cam will work fine. You wont get the full benefits of the cam with the stock heads, but Tim said that someone still picked up 4 mph using stock heads with just the LT1 cam.

4 mph is 4 mph any way you look at it

The theory behind it, is you will suffocate the plenums if you run a longer duration cam with low-flowing runners. That's an old hot rodder thing when the cams were wild and heads horrible. The LT1 cam isn't nearly as radical as the cams that were being installed back then. So don't worry about it, the cam will wake up that sleeping TBI.
