just messed with timing, but still pinging!!

ok ive been messing with my timing the past 2 days to try and quell the pinging that ive been getting since it started getting hot out.ive had it from the stock 0* all the way up to 14*,and everwhere ive had it it still pings.i sat in my driveway,brake-torqued it to 1500,and it pinged like crazy everywhere i had it.would 0* be the best for it,maybe even a little bit of retard?it feels fine at WOT,jsut that when im cruising and it has a load on it,it pings.i just put some 94 in last night to see what that would do,and it seems kinda better than the 93 that was in there.does anyone have any suggestions on where i should set it?i know no 2 engines are the same and would react differently to the same setting, but im getting a little frustrated and just want to get this pinging down to as little as possible.mods are in the sig.thanks for any advice!

there has to be soemthing else acting on teh engine to make it ping that much. is it giving any codes? is hte throttle response bad or inconsistant?
you can also make a car knock with a bad tune up or a plugged fuel filter. also, check the little things, like are the cap and rotor good, is teh coil putting out a good strong spark, are all teh wires good. all of these pieces of the system can make it knock and ping.

Could be a plugged egr port or bad egr. If your egr is plugged the ecm still advances the timming alot. If your getting a knock running 94 oct and everything else checks ok check the egr.

make sure its not a exhaust leak since they can sound very similar to a knock or some other kind of problem

I'll tell you what I did when my car pinged like crazy. My car drove me nuts until I finally bought a knock sensor and I never played with the timing before and after, and all audible knock just disappeared.

My friend's 89 T/A once again had the same problem and I recommended he change the knock sensor and that was his problem too.

My friend's dad had the same problem on his 91 Astro Van and he did the same thing as me and his problem went away too.

That's three cases here where it was a bad knock sensor, but no codes were thrown.
