Help making a decision
Heres the problem...I have 170k on my 305. I know she's been taken care of(it was my dads car), but now that I've got my hands on her I want to start doing some work. The question is whether or not I should bother, or should I throw in a new engine?
I like the TBI setup and I am not sure if i feel like messing around with TPI.

Dude, this post is way too general and vague.. you could get replies suggesting anything from pushing it off a cliff to putting wings on it to fly to the moon. I welcome new people but please do us a favor and read around.. learn whats what.. etc before you go posting things. From the sound of things you sound like a young guy and im gonna guess you dont have alot of money you might want to focus on the basic little things before you go building rome in a day.
If you wanted you could have just posted "hey everyone, im new i have x car ... will be looking around etc" and we woulda said hey welcome aboard enjoy

Alright more specific.
305 TBI
Open Element and Ultimate TBI mods
Edelbrock TES and Cat-back
At this point I am either going to start doing mods to the intake or get a used 350 block and begin modding that.
So the real question is should I get a rebuild kit for my 305 or give up because of the high miles and get a used 350?

This sort of question comes up on a weekly basis
rebuilding a 305 is pretty much pointless.. any machine work put into a 305 would cost the same on a 350. The 310 i own was built by someone without a clue.. i just got it for free so im not complaining. Id never do such a thing given the choice.. btw when you rebuild a motor the number of miles is not a factor (usually) the point of rebuilding an engine is to make it "like new" by replacing the wearable parts and remachining the worn surfaces. Any 350 short of a crate motor from general motors is going to be "rebuilt" and in fact core motor with miles on it is preferrable to something brand new. Racers called these seasoned blocks.. and they tend to be stronger. Like i said, read around there is so much information on this website it would blow your mind if you just did some clicking. Youd be able to ask better questions and really learn what you wanted.
