WinALDL work w/ engine off?

WinALDL work w/ engine off?
Subject line says it all. I'm having trouble getting my TBI running after a rebuild, as well as getting WinALDL hooked up to the car. Easier to fiddle with the computer with the engine off, but key "on" - if possible. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated, too.

Well, in case anyone else is having problems hooking up to the ALDL, the thing *does* work with the engine off. After fiddling with COM ports and whatnot, the thing started right up. PC's chew, if it was a Mac, it would have worked first time.
