New Performance Engine running rich
Hey guys
I got a brand new 305 (307 actually) in my car.
With all performance parts, done at a performance shop.
But today at the garage they were trying to figure out why the car was running rich. but they let me drive it anyways, about 1km into the drive, the car stalled and died. They are trying ot figure out whats wrong with teh car but they have no idea at all.
All the computers and everythign was checked and running, everything that wuld cuase this problem was double checked and I got no idea what it could be either.
Any ideas here...

Well, I don't want to sound like a jerk, but you need to give a little more info. My first and only guess is that the injectors are miss matched along with to high of fuel pressure.

I know im not giving you much info, but there isnt much I really know to tell you the truth.
Its got a 350 crankshaft.
new valves..
like new everything, its a brand new engine.
except for the TBI and the injectors

Its all new parts, it was built at a performance shop.
They cant determine the problem why its running sooooo rich.
They have been on why its running rich for 2 days now.
Nothing yet, any ideas?

Find out if they can give you a build sheet on the new engine. If they put in a hotter cam this could be one reason for it running rich. Find out what kind of vacuum you have at idle, if it's less than 15 to 16in. you may need a afpr. Did they reuse the stock heads and intake or go with aftermarket items? Is it running stock compression or higher-lower? These are the types of questions that need to be answered to help find out the cuase of your running rich. Did they put in a new o2 sensor? Do you have any exhuast leaks? The questions will go on and on till you finally figure out the correct reason your car is running rich. See what you can find out about your engine and let us know.

Not to rain on your parade, but a 350 and a 305 have the exact same crankshaft. Now a list of all changes is required though for any ideas on why the car is running rich.
Running rich
too much fuel
not enough air
Injectors could be leaky (too much pressure)
blockage in any manifold (intake/exhaust) messing with flow
bad O2 sensor
too cold, always running in open loop
bad sensors all over the board preventing closed loop
maf sensor
timing
The ECM usually adjusts for changes in fuel pressure and meters injector pulses as required, hence why 10/10 times 10 different TBI's have 10 different settings for fuel pressure since the ECM sets itself. (Its why we have that oh so wonderful adjustable fuel pressure regulator mod for TBI engines listed on this site) Provided of course your O2 sensor is good. Anything can be wrong here or something else missed. Even if you don't hear it, knock and ping are there and the knock sensor scans for it continuously. By the time you hear knock, its already a very severe knock. (Nothing necessarily broken, just something way off on timing usually or extreme temperatures in chamber)
