Rich/Lean - What's the right fuel pressure???
Hi everyone - ok, I'm running about 12-13psi for fuel pressure and the car's running great lately (starts right up - pulls thru 5,000 rpm real strong) but i get a few puffs of smoke on start-up until the car goes into open-loop and the O2 sensor takes over - my plugs are a little sooty on their outside rim, so i know i'm running rich - but how do i solve this? Is it unsafe to go too low on fuel pressure? (like at the risk of not-enough-fuel-pressure at high rpm?) Has anyone else encountered this? I'd appreciate any feedback, its like the only bug i've got left to work out.

How old is the engine? Those few puffs of smoke on startup cvould be the oil that got past the vavle guide seals burning off.

brand new - i put the motor together myself (thats not the problem) - I'm certain its a matter of running rich - i just need to know how to go about fixing it - i've got the 305 computer still too

what injectors are you using and where did you get them? My engine runs so lean its crazy. Even with the fuel pressure up all the way the o2 sensor output is almost nill when i give it gas. I ahvnt even broken in the cam yet because i dont want to damage the heads or pistons.

oh.. if you dont have winaldl, get it. Its free and the cable is easy to make. Winaldl will tell you if your rich or lean by directly putting out the o2 voltage output as a readout. No need to use a volt meter.

Yeah winALDL is great but ever since that darn swap the stupid ALDL conector dont do squat, it wont even let me pull codes, but anyways I vote for the winALDL also.

well, i've downloaded the software already - i've got to get a cable made - but my problem is knowing how far down i can go on my fuel pressure - is it safe to just keep turning it down until the motor isn't rich? I need a 350 comp. lol
