Slow to start
Help me figure out where to start troubleshooting - '96 Chevy Pickup with 305 TBI. It used to start almost as soon as the starter engaged, but for the last several days it takes a couple of seconds of cranking to start. A couple of seconds isn't much, but it is noticably slow to start compared to before. This morning it did not start on the first attempt. I quit cranking after several seconds, reset the key and then it fired up immediately on the second try. I'm thinking fuel... any other ideas/things to look at?
Thanks,
Rob

That souds exaclty like my Camaro... Its not my base timing, not ignition components (for me). I have always just thought that it takes a few seconds to build the fuel pressure up or something? All I know is it will always start, so I dont really worry about it

First of all, are your sure it's a 96? If so, then it's not an L03 (305 TBI), but an L30 with CPFI (not crossfire, central port fuel injection). Rated at about 225hp, too.
But the fuel filter/pump suggestion still stands, it's just that it's an ENTIRELY different beast.
When starting cold in the morning, I know my L05 needs at least 2 seconds of cranking before it fires. If it's warm/hot, that time is vastly reduced. I think all TBI motors are the same way. My dad's L03 is the same...I think it's a function of the TBI itself, shooting fuel into a cold manifold.

Ha ha! The crossfire is in my '83 T/A! I guess I should learn more about my truck. You must be correct on the CPFI. Anyway, my question is now moot as the truck wouldn't start at all and was towed to Chevy...
Now my '83 is filling in as a daily driver...
Thanks for the info,
Rob
