cowl intake for formula

I found a cowl intake on ebay that uses the "Bulge" in the formula hood. Does anyone know how this thing works. They said that it comes with a solenoid????? Will this work in my TBI??

Probably like the old cold air intake fer the ?L69?. It should work, but you'd Have to make sure it'll feed into yer air cleaner....

It was probably the Cowl Intake from an 82-84 T/A. I used to have one in my car, but i could never get it to work properly.

It has a plastic insert that mounts up into your bulge (uses stock mounting positions - every formula hood has em.) which contains a flap, and a seleniod to control the flap.

It uses a different Air Cleaner Lid (if that's what you call it). It has about a 4 inch wide hole in the lid that mounts flush with the plastic bulge insert.

The selenoid is supposed to open up the flap inside the plastic insert, and allow the Throttle Body to get air through the PowerBulge Hood.

My problem was that I could not get the selenoid to open and close on its own. I ended up just jamming the seleniod open, so it got air through the hood all of the time.

I have all of the parts if you want them, just send me a PM and an amount that you are willing to pay.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Kurt.

I think that I am going to scratch the idea. I have a wiring diagram of how the solenoid gets energized. There is alot more involved than I thought. Oil pressure, engine temp, throttle pos. Plus the ad on ebay did'nt include the air cleaner lid. But I apprecieate the offer.

No Problem ...

But you could always do as I did, and have it constantly open. Worked pretty well and sounded awesome.

Another (and I think better) idea is to take down that plate that closes the Bulge on your formula, and get a 14X3 Non drop base Open Air Element. That way your car benefits from the open air, and gets colder air through the bulge.

Just a thought for ya, that's what I am running now.
