HEI vs. points, any advantages in doing a swap???

Is there any advantage of swapping in a HEI distributor/coil in place of a regular points distributor/coil system on our cars, or a matter of fact any car. Both the HEI and points ignitions are currently stock. Is it worth doing it, or should I just leave it alone?

GM HEI is a GREAT ignition system. Points suck in every way, shape, or form! My friend's rebuilding an old iron points dissy for his dad's 283 SBC. It's a joke. I can't believe he's even wasting his time. I'm about to just buy him an in cap HEI dissy.
