335
335
i was wondering what kind of power i can expect with a 335 kit with a good set of heads and a 4 barrell single plane manifold, and a 454 90 pound injectors with headers and a borla exhaust not to meantion a lt4 cam that comes with 1.6 ratio rockers with rollers and a custom chip, i am hopeing i can get over 300 horeses here. any ideas on what i should add.
I want to keep the orignal block, since they are stopping production of the f body.

this topic seems to come up alot and the general concensious is to just save your money and time and get a 350 instead. Youd probably be better off just investing all the money youd of spent stroking an old 305 into better heads, cam, exaust, etc. The returns will still be quite nice and you'll be able to cut to the chase faster. Even after you stroke it, youll still have the issue of rotten heads and inadiquate cam, not to metion exaust of you havnt done it yet.

one of the reasons i say the above is that once i started to take apart my car to work on the engine, the engine just never seemed to find its way back into the car. Once you hgave it apart your gonna want to/ have to do this that and the other and before you know it youll have spent wxyz dollars on an engine that is still 15 ci short of 350. Its easier jsut to put in a 350 or keep the 305 as is and mod it.
Keeping the original block on a car that will not be sought after in future pretenses is silly. You just have a basic Firebird with the base V8; not a Vert, 1LE, B4C etc. Forget about staying stock. Stick a 350 in there and be done with it. I don't know why anyone bothers with the 3.75" stroke anyway....

I put a 350 in my car and lover the power difference and so will you. If i were you i whould buy a 350 HO from GM for 2200.00 dollars. then you whould have a moter with 330 horsepower.
I would use that cash on top end stuff that pops on over to the 350 anyways, you'll make more power and when you blow the 305, it's a sound investment in that you'll have all or most of the top end components you need.
Yeah just go 350. I have about 2700$ in EVERYTHING. I bought a lo5 (9C1 versio) it doesnt make to much power out of the box but compression and bottom end are good. I paid 1800 for the motor shipped to my door. Rest of the money was used for whole new exhaust (dual with hedman longtubes), intake, distributer, holley SA carb, fuel pressure reg ,ect I think it was definetly worth it because its all brand new and guys with built 350s will say its slow but look at what I did have....lo3 will equal mods wont be as fast. Plus at least the lo5 i ordered has the l98 cam instead of the peanut cam....just waiting until summer
