305 TBI help
305 TBI help
I have a few questions that I havent found the answers to by searching through the forums. I have a 89 RS Camaro, that origionally had a 2.8 mpfi, and a T5 behind it. I just accuired a 305 from a 88 GTA, but I dont have the TPI setup on it. I am going to be swapping in the 305 with a TBI setup on it after I rebuild the engine. I have noticed that the crank has been turned 20 under, and so have the rods. (correct terms?) I have a very limited budget to get everything running. I was wanting to build the engine using a slightly different cam, and have it able to take a 50-75hp dry shot of N2O, but using the stock fuel system, the same crank, and stock pistons. I will be changing the cam to a flat tappet cam, (instead of the roller cam I have in there) because I am out of money. I would like to be able to have over 300 hp when using the N2O. If there are any very cheap suggestions about what kind of cam I should get I would really appreciate input on what I should get. Plus I need to know if my crank will be able to hold together.

Couple of things.
1. I would recommend the used $50 LT1 cam over flat tappet. You get the nice fast valve openings of the roller cam for good hp and a broader torque curve than the flat tappet will provide.
2. With TBI being a speed density system it's not going to sense the N20 like a MAF system and adjust the fuel system automatically. I believe your going to need a wet N20 system on a TBI engine.
