82 trans am w/cfi 305

hi i am a new member and I recently purchased an 82 trans am with the crossfire fuel injection. The car has 192 000km and it is time for its tune up. I am running on a low budget so can anyone please tell me what I should get for a performance tune up. Like I will change the oil and put a new filter in but for the air cleaner i was thinking k & n but that would set me back $130 cnd because the cfi has 2 filters. Umm..i heard around that older cars like this one may need new oxygen sensors and when replaced give the car much more power than pervious. Is this all valid..Can someone please reply and give me pointers and low budget tune up things...Maybe something like larger headers off of an older chevy truck with a 305..or are the headers mostly the same...please reply ASAP.

Yeah, it would probably be a good idea to change the oxygen sensor. That little bastard can screw gas mileage and performance up more than just about any other sensor. The plugs are a given for a tune up but a new distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires might also be a good idea. Go ahead and check the timing and adjust it if neccesary. I've heard advancing it a couple of degrees can get a little bit of extra performance. If you use decent quality parts doing all this, you should see a small improvement in performance. K&N filters are a good idea but as you said, they ain't cheap. Are you sure they cost that much? Damn that seems pricey.

ha

i took out the cfi long time ago in place of a 69 camaro engine that was built up by myself.
I still have the ported cfi intake and would like to see how everything would work now that there are actual sized ports.
But thats a little later on.
