headers

Im looking forward to buying new headers for my old 82 trans am. However, dont stock headers have a place where the 02 sensor connects? Im pretty sure the heddmans i wanna get have one too. If not then isnt my engine gonna run sloppy.
Speaking of exhaust, is there any other set up i can put on the 82 rather than that ****ty one where from the exhaust manifold 2 sides are separate, then right away into one skinny pipe and then big sideways muffler with 2 tips.ANymore inexpensive performance tips
???

ok, so i got the oil/filter, and air filter all changed. So i guess from here its
- drain tranny fluid and pour new
- drain rear axle fluid and pour new + posi additive
- new plugs and accel wires
- new o2 sensor
- advance timing by 4 degrees

This is all i know to do, so if there is anything that is reasonably priced and i can add on to my tune up, please reply and list.
By the way it is a pure stock 82 trans am(i think recaro) with the crossfire..and it does run rough...PLUS...when i go out back and look , it looks like the exhaust is coming out in little puffs, similar to sound..its like a loud puff, puff, puff. Its not burning oil. People say its probably the compression..isit? I think its just the old plugs that are crap #1. WHen i install new ones ill tell u if its the same story.
*how would i go about converting the mechanical fan for an electric?*
Anyways please reply on input from all this info. cuz im a newbie and i want to find out as much as possible so i dont make major mistakes that will ruin my ta. THankx:lala:

a loud puff puff puff could be a number of things....

at best it could be a cam
at worst, well there are a couple of bad things that could cause a puff puff

as for tune up: fuel filter, don't forget the fuel filter, those blame things will leave you sitting beside the road....

good luck... after the wires and plugs, let us know if it is still puff puffing and we'll begin to help you figure it out....

also, if you get the chance, check for any odd smells coming from the exhaust.... esp rotten egg smell....

if u think its compression, do a compression test. if u dont have a compression gauge. you can unplug your coil and crank your engine over. if you listen carefully you will be able to hear if one cylinder speeds up during your cranking or if the sound stays the same. if it speeds up you have a compression problem.
