305 roller motor question need to now asap
Hey i just got a chance to pick up a 305 tbi motor out of an rs 5spd dirt cheap. I forgot to find out what year it was when i talked to the guy but i need to know if i want it by tommorrow. My question is are if all the TBI motors are roller cams? If not what years wernt. I know that it is an earlier model camaro though. If so how bad are the cams in these motors. And how bad are the heads compared to a LO5? What I am looking at doing is getting the motor for the roller cam parts and installing them into my 89 LO5 truck motor so that I can run the roller cam. Also I have a bad valve seal or a guide that is smoking on start up so i am considering the heads if they will be comprable to a stock LO5 setup till i rebuild the motor in 6-8 months. I just dont have the money to rebuild her all the way at the moment. I am going to be driving across the states and i want to make sure the truck will do ok hauling my firebird to SC from CA. Any opinions are welcome along with any advice. Thanks for the help guys.
Yes all TBIs are roller cam.87 is when all chevy engines are supposed to changed I believe.Swirl port heads are not great for performance as they along with the l03 tend to run out of breath around 4500 rpm.
Thanks for the response. I knew that the heads were pretty bad on the LO3 and the LO5 but i was hoping that it would be a toss up. Ya know the raise in compression offsetting the slightly lower flow rates but owell. The main thing that I am after are the roller parts. Thanks again I will jump on the motor morrow.
