Intakes for tbi

Im going into the tbi 305 soon, and i want to put different heads and intake and cam. I looked at the edelbrock tbi intake. what kind of horsepower gain does it have over the stock intake. And what about the intake with a 1/2 spacer. Thanks

I have the Edelbrock TBI intake with a half inch spacer and pretty much felt nothing. There is a little more high end pull but with the crappy cam and heads it isn't going to do much. That weak cam can only bring in so much air, enough that it can get by with the stock intake. Now down the road it will be a great improvemnt and will get the most out of a new cam and heads. I am putting an LT4 production cam in with S/R torquer 305 heads soon and I will finally get the most out of this intake. For now save your money on other stuff like a new cam or full exhaust.

I have '90 RS 305 LO3 TBI

I've thus far collected for install (at a warmer date):

Weiand Intake #8000 (I'm emissions, must have EGR)
- I hope this works - my Mom got it for me

LT1 Cam

#416 Heads
- The #416 heads came off a 85 LG4 I had - a parts car, so no expense there for me. They look like good heads, and after a port/polish job they are said to flow nicely - maybe as well as Vortech heads. I've seen #416 heads around for pretty cheap ($100).

I've never done anything like this, but I'm going to port/polish on my own - with help from books, the instructions within the Standard Abrasives Port/Polish Kit, and Sitting Bull's threads. (I have nothing to lose really, and the attempt sur does beat the $$$ for aftermarket heads).

Of course none of it does any good without new exhaust/headers - I'm searching/saving as we speak.

I did the same mod and regret it only because I later put in vortec heads and an edelbrock RPM intake. Because of the different bolt pattern I had to put on a new intake. If I were you I would save your money and get vortec heads and the mathcing Intake. You put those on with an LT1 cam which you can get for around 50 dollars or less and you will notice a big difference. In my opinion and from everthing that I have read the vortecs flow the best per dollar. However you should probably put headers and an exhaust in before you tear into the motor.
