MSD Retard Feature Questions

The Mule never starts quickly unless it is already warm. Does my MSD 6al retard the timing at all while starting? I have heard that if you have your timing advanced then the spark comes later in the combustion cycle, making it harder to start. If this is the case, where are people running there tiing at?

with advanced timing the spark comes earlier. there is no real need to worry about timing retard at start up unless you are running a very big cam that calls for a ton of advance at idle.
most stock cars run best around +6 to +8

later

The reason it takes a couple of seconds to start when cold is that the fuel pump has to prime the injectors. All tbi's seem to be this way. Probably due to the presure regulator leakind down over time.
