what would you do with an L19?
what would you do with an L19?
So if you had a bone stock L19 with a couple months before you installed it and about 3k in cash you can put in it what would you do? Looking for low end say...1600-3500rpm.
Must be smog legal in cali.

isn't L19 the later style big block tbi's? the ones with teh vortec derived heads?
if it is the motor i am thinking of i would only be concerned with freeing up teh exhaust. headers/cat/cat back. if you are concerned with your emissions and want more towing/away from a stop grunt, look into gears and a little higher stall torque convertor.
and of course, data log it and get a real chip burned.
i hope i am thinking of the right motor. if i am, they are pretty strong from teh factory. you will jsut have to do the little things to get the rest of the power out of it.

Yup, TBI 454. Out of a K30 going into my blazer for a smog legal swap. I was thinking of adding a blower, whipple(along with others i think) makes a smog legal blower which puts her up around 555ft/lbs, with an average of about 510 ft/lbs from 1600-3500rpm. I was thinking of headers nitrous, new heads, and whatever other mods come up along the way. I wouod like to get the average up to around 600 ft/lbs from 1600-3500. Looking for ideas right now.

i would say you should jsut stuff a little bigger than stock cam in there that is made for a blower and go for teh whipple. teh whipple set ups use the stock intake i think, so you will want to up grade that whiel you have everythign apart. exhaust is very important on a blower car. make sure you get good pipes, full lengths with large primaries.
good luck

Thanks for the info NJ. I keep hearing how bad the L05 heads are, but you dont reccomend changing the heads on the L19? Is flow rate not as important with a blower? Or are the L19 heads better than the L05?
