ok i did my headers this weekend (pain in the ***) on the passenger side theres a wire that plugs into a nipple on the head and the connector fell apart when i touched it (from the heat i suppose) what is that for? the nipple side is good (on the head) but the wire side dosent have anything to hold it in its plugged in now but nothings holding it there

That is your fan switch. When the coolant reaches a preset temp, that little unit will turn the fan on (and back off when the coolant temp drops back down). Make SURE you have connected, otherwise you'll run the chance of overheating your engine while in traffic or driving around town.

The knock sensor is below that in the block just above the oil pan (kind of near the starter).

ok thanks man its good drivin around i just cant sit for too long then it might overheat.....any suggestions on where to get a new connector? i looked at auto zone and western auto and a local parts store with no luck

If I remember correctly, you could use a normal SPADE electrical connector which will allow you to slide it on to the nipple (at a 90 degree angle).

That's what I had to do for my temp sending unit (which is the one on the driver's side head).

the connector seemes to be just a wire with a split in it its hard to tell what it was like before because the plastic retainer just crumbled when i grabbed it, ill look at it tonight to see if a spade connector will work (im at work right now) thanks for your help man!

Or you could wire yourself a fan switch into the cabin so you can run the fan when ever you want. Thats what I did, I didn't like my motor getting up to 226 degrees before the fan kicked on, so now I flip it on at 200 degrees. Much better, plus it looks cool mounted on the panel right under the headlight switch.

would i just run that wire to the dash plug it into a switch and then run a ground off the other side of the switch?

No, just buy a red lighted toggle switch from radio shack and buy a relay, and some 10 or 12 gauge wire. Just cut the two wires off coming out of the fan and just pull the wire going back to the fire wall out of the way, I laid mine on the frame rail. Do a search in the cooling it down tech board on fan switch. They have some wiring diagrams to follow. You basically ground the switch run the other wire from the switch to the relay, run a power wire to the relay, and a ground wire to the relay. I tried it without the relay which is simpler to wire but I kept burning up switches.
