Help! Major Issues
Well, let me first give you guys a breakdown of what I have done to the car thus far:
New cap and rotor
8.8 wires
MSD 6al - no limiter
New spark plugs
Timing - I can set it to 12 degrees atdc and I get no response either way. This is one thing that "worries" me, but it is not the main problem. Currently set to 6 degrees atdc.
Fully Rebuilt TBI with matched injectors, injector pod and open element.
Ok here are the problems.
1. The throttle body sticks when at rest. I actually have to hit the gas to "break" it free. Tried sanding the blades Helped a little, but I don't want to remove too much. It squeaks and sounds like a turkey call.
2. I idle at a MINIMUM of 1200 RPM's. Usually it's around 2300. I should be around 600, any ideas?
3. Also the idle air screw was "used" by the person who owned the car before and now it doesnt matter which way you turn it, it doesnt do anything!
Any and all help appreciated. The 350 goes in within a month or two, but I need to get this working right before than.
Thanks
James

Did you follow the adjusting IAC article in the tech articles? You have to jumper the A and B ports and then unplug the IAC and then adjust the screw. As far as the squeaking not sure on that.

Hmmm....where to start.
1) Your actual throttle cable may need to be lubed, and may be the reason you have to hit the gas so hard to get it to break loose. I have that problem with mine. I can't imagine it being the throttle blades, unless of course you bought a rebuilt tbi and didn't rebuild it yourself. Then it is possible they mixed and matched tbi parts, in which case it could be possible the blades are scrapping. If you are sure it is scrapping, check the insides of the tbi bores for markes, and sand the respective area on the blades. Just be careful as you were last time you sanded them.
2)I would say check your TPS voltage as well as your IAC. If your idle screw is messed up though, that would definetely be a reason for such a high idle. Also keep in mind that it is common for factory tachs to read higher than they should. You can hook up winaldl and find out what rpms you're really at.
Best of luck man.
