emissions test......
well, im not sure if im supposed to put this in tbi or exhaust so ill put it in tbi, since i might need engine work.
alright, my car has failed emissions twice already and i have 3 months and one more try to go. here are the readings for the 1st test:
Hydrocarbons: standards=.80;readings= 1.87
Monoxide: standards=15.0; readings=8.7
co2 and nox are n/a in my area so i wont bother w/those
2nd test, after putting on a new $415 dollar exhaust system:
Hydrocarbons: readings=1.75
Monoxide: readings= 6.7
the monoxide is ok but i need to lower that unburnt fuel by one point in 3 months. if i spend 450 in repairs and the last test is lower than the initial, then i can apply for a waiver. what else can i do to pass emissions? i have new plugs, new exhaust, and ive added stuff to my tank before taking the tests and none of that has helped. my dad thinks that maybe a new o2 sensor might help......what do you say?

you might try a new cap and rotor and plug wires. also make sure you are not missing. and an o2 would help, if you haven't changed it in a while (read 20k or so) it would be a good idea to replace it.

i would guess that with hydrocarbons that high, you are having an ingintion related problem. if you already have plugs/cap/rotor you might look into wires and coil. are you idling rough or can you feel any sort of misfire?
i would also do a compresion test on you cyl. if you have one that isnt' compressing it won't burn right.

it only idles wierd when i have the vent or ac on, cause i have no freon. when im in park, it stays a good 500 rpm or so and there is no rough idle. ill ask about a compression test, that might help, thanks.
