Car: 91 Camaro RS Update: Sold Camaro, now own a "91" Corvette.
Engine: Corvette L98 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Check for an exhaust leak. Exhaust leaks make a ticking sound that is often heard at lower speeds.

It could be a stuck lifter. I thought I had one. Changed all of them out and the ticking was still there. Turned out to be a bad ring or something in the piston, which eventually lead to the engine going boom. I had the same symptoms as you, only heard it with load on the engine and heard nothing when deaccelerating or even revving at idle. Anyways, check per process of operation. 1) exhaust leak 2) lifters 3) whatever else you can think of on the top end 4) bottom end. Best of luck, hopefully it is just exhaust or a lifter.

Take it somewhere and pay the $25 and get a leakdown check run on the engine. That will tell you if it is the ring problem he was talking about.

Perfect insurance and well worth, unless you have the extra money lying around to pay for an engine if it is indeed your ring and it goes. When the 305 blew, it gave me the perfect opportunity swap to my 383......unfortuantly it's been a long time coming Now, I'm broke.....

Sometimes the injectors tick loud enough to be mistaken for a real problem, ensure that's not it first, then check rocker arms for valve lash.

If you've got an aftermarket coil on it the sound of it firing sounds like a tick that increases with engine rpm. If you take off the air cleaner you can clearly hear it coming from the distributor region.
