Lg4
Lg4
What kind of cam does the LG4 engine have. I have an Lg4 engine sitting around and i currently have a crossfire (LU5) engine in my car but i dont know if either one is better than the other to rebuild. Any input? Thanks.

It has a flat tappet hydrualic cam. It's known as a peanut cam since the specs are so small. Specs are: .350"/.385" lift, 177/194* dur. @ .050 and a 109 lsa. It's a pretty wimpy cam.
Stroke
I'm planning on making it into a 335 stroker. I would love to get a 350 and stroke that cuz i have a friend with an 84 firebird with a 383 stroker making over 450 hp. But unlike him I dont have the money to do that so i'm stuck with the engines i've got. Would either motor be better than the other to stroke?

It's a waste of money to stroke a 305. For the same amount of money you can stroke a 350, and that includes buying the block. You can use the heads on the LG4 and port them up to flow like Vortecs (do a search for Sitting Bull and head porting, bunch of info). Porting isn't as hard as some people make it out to be. It just takes time and patience, so it's ideal if you don't have a lot of money. I've ported a couple sets of heads myself so if you need any help let me know. You'll have to get the heads rebuilt obviously, but you'd have to do that to put them on a 335 also. Grab a cast crank, rods, and a set of hyper pistons, decent sized cam and a good dual plane intake and you'll be pushing 440 hp for the same amount of money as you would stroking the 305.

Yeah but it says something about a car/driver when you still have that original little small black in there and you are capable of killing 350s at the track.

Yes, or you could spend the same amount of money on a 383 (or a 350 for that matter) and be faster. Remember there's no replacement for displacement.
