well, it was an awesome day. 50 degrees out, sunny and blue skies. i was expecting to go from 16.00 down to 15.5. so on my first run i pulled a 15.01 @93.29 and i damn near crapped my pants. i thought "thats it, best run of the day right there" then the next time i went i pulled a 14.97 @ 92.46 its weird how those mph's act. my 60' were about 2.2 and had one 2.19

ok, i seen the k&n, 3.73 posi, flomaster 80's but for some reason totally overlooked the edelbrock intake and LT1 cam. Sounds like you have all the major stuff except for headers. Headers, maybe a crank pulley, ultimate tbi mods and some more tuning if it needs any and you should be in the 14.5 range.

yeah, i am pretty sure i am in need of headers. the thing is i fell in love with a 96 formula. i am trying to save money for that so i have to put off mods on this firebird. if it wasnt for the 96 i would have headers by now. i am actualy 2 weeks away from getting the new bird. 6 speed here we come!

Man, That's some great runs. You should be real proud of that. I should have a 14.9 car but when I ran it was 37 degrees outside and at night with a 20 mph headwind. Everyone there seemed to be 4 tenths slow, and I ran a 15.39 which agrees with an e.t. calculator that says 14.9. Did you do any custom tuning to the computer? My tune isn't perfect yet but it's getting there. My 60 fts. are horrible too, 2.38 was the best I pulled that night, the 3000 stall is going in next week though that should cure that hehe.

the only real "tuning" i did was the vafpr. and then i bought the weaker spring from top down solutions.

hydra512 what kind of gas mileage do you get?
I'm seriously thinking of going the same route you did.

You running automatic or 5-speed?
What is everything else on/in your block?
Rods, arms, crank, heads?? Stock?

with the spring that came with the vafpr i got 24 mpg on the highway and 17 city. i dont know what it is now with the new spring in there. its an auto. i havent touched much else. new timing chain, cleaned the lifters when they were out, and i run mobil 1. rods, arms, crank, heads all strock. it smokes like no other though i put new valve seals in but that didnt help much. i think its cause i switched to synthetic at 140k miles. i have about 144k now

how can Chuck run 15.5 with ,Vortec heads, LT1 cam, 2400 stall, full exhaust, Performer RPM intake, when hydra512 is running 14.9 with basic minimal mods? It must be ecm tuning right?

Congrats hydra512! Imports are sh**ting in there pants!

Look at his 60' time: 2.412 sec. If he ran 0.4 sec quicker to 60' (i.e. 2.00 time, from better traction/technique/both), then his ET would be 14.7 to 14.9 sec. On top of that, there is the matter of tuning (as you suggested).

L31 Vortec heads (same as LT1 iron heads) + LT1 Fcar cam should both equal LT1 Fcar performance, all else being equal with a 93-97 Fcar, once properly tuned, and that means mid to high 13 sec time slips at well over 100 mph.

So said differently, his car runs well in spite of not having a better ECM tune.

Look at hydra512's sig:

90 firebird tbi
14.976 @ 92.46
k&n, 3.73 posi, flomaster 80's
edelbrock tbi intake, LT1 cam, Z28 valve springs.

and then look at what Chuck!'s got:

https://www.thirdgen.org/rides/index...ew&rideid=8662

Chuck! has 2.73s, but notice the 3.73s and posi that hydra's got???

i pulled a 2.24 60' with stock open 2.73 rear end, stock suspension with only headers, catco cat, and 3" exhaust as my mods. He should be able to get into the 2.2 range without gears.

Its under control, dont worry guys

btw, Dont talk **** about my launching technique Just mashing it off a 2200 stall netted a 2.7 60'. That 2.4 cam off rolling onto the gas off idle. Any attempt to stall just caused 2.5+. That hp going though 1 wheel and to Kumho ECSTA 712s is bad.

It's all in the tunning. Last time I went to the track on a cooler than normal day, but had my timing too far advanced, I tried different programs and ran between 14.8 @ 94 mph (best of the night) to 16.4 @ 84 (worst run that I actually stayed at WOT for the whole run).

What I'm trying to say is that with a car that isn't stock the tuning can make a major difference. 2+ sec and 12 mph all from having my timing messed up, (no fuel changes).

If you change the cam and/or heads, the timing curve NEEDS to be changed for best results.

Beast5spdGTA, are those the only mods you have on your current driver?Running 14.4@92 MPH with stock unported heads and TBI?I have a 91 firebird,L03 completely stock, and I do mean stock, example: the stock paper element filter. How did you get these times?

I wouldn't say only mods like it's a small amount. I've done just about everything except the heads/TBI and weight reduction. I'm still working on burning a better custom chip.

Look on this thread for a breakdown of my mods/times. All except the best on which was just more chip tuning.mods and 1/4 mile times scroll down to middle of post.
