Problem with spacers and idling

I bought a 1/2" TBI spacer and a 1/4" Injector spacer. They were made out of wood and I painted them w/ engine enamel. When I took the throttle body & Injector pod off........i cleaned them both with an all purpose cleaner & degreaser. I then put the throttle body spacer back on with a gasket on both sides (Had to get longer bolts). I did not put a gasket on with the injector spacer.

Now the problem, it idles really high and at times rough. It's almost like I have a leak (vacuum). But, everything is hooked up fine. Could I possibly of messed up one of the sensors cleaning it (IAC, TPS)?

Any Ideas??? Thanks!

The problem is in the TBI spacer. I removed it, and it idles fine now. I just managed to twist off a fuel line and screw up the soft aluminum fuel threads in the injector pod.

I guess you have to modify the throttle cable, or put some spacers on the throttle bolts? Either way, the spacer is the problem. It is either causing a vaccum leak or interfering with the throttle bracket.

The spacer width varies by 1/16", and isn't cut very precisely. Also easily cracked.

This is it for TBI mods for me.

Well that would be your problem. Sure, people used to make carb spacers out of wood in the old days, but with such a huge SBC aftermarket out there now, why would you even consider a wooden TBI spacer? Order one from a reputable company made from steel or aluminum and I can bet you will be more than pleased with it. Where did you get that one anyway? It looks like someone didn't even know how to use a jigsaw or a hole cutter when they made that.

Later,
Harry
