want to get some 416's suggestions

okay as subject reads i am thinking about going to my local bone yard to pick up some 416 heads.. what should i look for in buying these heads? what kind of cars besides the lg4 camaro's do you find them on?

when i take them to a machine shop what kind of work should i ask them to do to them? i have heard about putting the 1.9x intake vavle on them (from doing a search) but what about the exhaust side..

then i have a 91 tbi i know my intake wont bolt up without modification.. why bother.. another excuse to go out and buy a manifold.. what do you guys like.. torkerII,performer, weiend stealth, weiend action, rpm air gap...just throwing some well known names out there... if need be i will take off the egr my car doesnt need to pass emmisions!

i have seen these heads used on 350's are they a restrictor or can the flow numbers realy be that good? i am going to be trying to get a 350 long block soon as well.. i really appreciate all the help....
Shawn

dont know if this matters i do plan on using a lt1 cam with the heads... how much is it for rockers and springs??that might be the biggest cost..

Do you plan to port and polish them? I would definetly spend the time to do so; there is a ton of information on that here on TGO. Fully ported and polished 416s with 1.94"/1.60" valves supposedly flow just as much as Vortecs. People with Vortecs, XE274, Performer RPM combos are pulling off mid 12s with stall and gears/posi (350 cid motors). I would think the ported 416s could do the same. If you do port and polish them do so before any machine shop work. I would go into the shop and talk to the head honcho. Tell him what your doing and what you want out of the heads, give him the cam specs, and get to know who you are dealing with. It has been my experience that people do better work for less money when they know the customer personally, so talk to him a bit (not saying be his best friend though....). The springs will need to be changed, and Z28 springs will work fine. IIRC they can take something like .480 to .490 lift, so that's plenty. I would personally get 1.94" intake valves installed along with 1.60" exhaust valves. In a performance application roller rockers never hurt, so I would invest in a good set. All the intakes you mentioned are fine. The Performer RPM works great for many people, and the Weiand Stealth worked great for me.

yeah dd2000 says 416's and my 305 i should push 350 hp...

never used dd2000

you say i should port and polish them before machine shop why is that? is porting and polishing that expensive not to have a shop do it or is it that easy????

isnt the 416's a 305 head???it doesnt raise compression to much on a 350??

you guys think i should stay tbi if i am changing all this stuff out already??wont i need a chip burned? who is willing to burn a chip??or its off to the dark side..
Shawn

if the can flow so good and be had so cheap why so few tbi guys do this cheap mod??

They're cast iron heads off of LG4 305's (perimeter bolt valve covers). Some guys on TGO that have ported these heads have gotten really good flow numbers out of them comparable to Vortecs. Try some searches on this topic and look for posts by Sitting Bull and I think F'bird88 ? They have done port jobs on the 416's that I've read about and I believe they have flow numbers on them.
