head question...

ok i have done a search and determined that my heads my friend gave me are lo5...14102193 now they are free and iif i clean them myself and port and polish them my self will they be an improvement over the lo3 heads??? notioce "i" am doing the work except for the milling down i have a guy who will do it for 20 bucks...
now most people are going to tell me they are junk and i understand that but they are free and if i p/p them will they be better than my lo3 heads...
also why can't you grind the swirl port down some in the heads to lesson the obstruction?
