Kickdown cable

When I made the swap from 305 to 350 I noticed that my kickdown cable is too short to hook up at the throttle so I just left it off because I only drive the car once a week if that and all really do is race it when I do drive it anyway . I was wondering what the hell that thing does anyway, Lately I have notice that I have been having trouble shifting into OD so I was wondering if that my be the problem. Thanks

could be. I'm not too good with transmissions but, I know your detent is what allows your transmission to downshift automatically when you floor it. If you punch it in your car without it connected you will notice that the car does not thrust forward and the engine speed does not jump up. It more the less gives a gradual climb unless you downshift manually. This is because the tranny is not downshifting to allow the engine to reach it's torque curve and thrust you forward faster

When you say trouble shifting into OD Do you mean putting it in gear to OD or the trans is having a hard time shifting into OD? Also unless you changed the intake to a raised plenum, I don't see how it would fall short of the throttle lever. You could purchase a universal cable or a new cable. They are like $20 If I remember correct.
