Hey I have an 89 camaro RS and i was wondering where the fuel filter is located , I am going to probably change it tomorrow and I was just wondering where it was located . I thought it was under the car by the gas tank. Thanks

You did remember correctly. I have a 90 RS and I just recently replaced mine. It's right in front of the back left tire (drivers side) and yeah, make sure you have a couple diff. wrenches with ya. An adjustable one might help too. Ohh yeah, one more thing. With the fuel injected TBI cars you actually have to BLEED the fuel system before you change it, or plan on loosing a gallon of gas while you replace it. All you have to do is remove the fuse from the fuel pump, and once the pump has no power start the car and let it run untill it dies from fuel starvation. After it dies try and start it a couple times then get to work. After you are done just replace the fuse and your good to go. Glad I could help!

I dont know if your cars fuse is in the exact place as mine but mine was right near the battery. If anything yours is near the passenger side front fender. Its like a regular skinny wire(usually black) with a fat plug on its end.
If you still cant find it, the it might be running of your positive battery cable.

hey joshwilson3 when you disconnect that "fuse" and the car wont start. THen when you disconnect the fuel filter lines are you being patient for the fuel to pour out a bit then slow to trickle and stop or are you waiting a couple seconds?
Because after driving it there will almost always be LEFTOVER fuel in the lines that just has to drain out, however if it streams down for about 30 seconds or more then scramble to connect the lines and give me a shout.

Honestly, I don't remember how I got mine to work. I had the same problem as you do, I couldn't figure out where the fuse was. A friend of mine is studying to be a car mechanic and new what to pull, so I let him do it.
As for running your car till there isn't any more gas in it, I highly reccomend not doing that. That is really bad for your car, especially if your going to drain it that much. You may have some form of debris in your tank and it could get lodged into your fuel line, which would make your filter being dirty the least of your worries. I'd say if worse comes to worst, just stick it out and replace it as FAST AS YOU CAN. As for getting it to turn off, I really am at a loss for words. Sorry

i just did it as fast as i could and used some old rags around the lines to keep it from flowing all over. and make sure you have the right size wrenches BEFORE you start pouring gas all over your self and garage.

couldnt you just get a car next to you and put a hose over the fitting and let the fuel pump pump in till its near empty and let the rest drain out in a oil pan and throwin some where and then soat it with water just to be sure.
