TBI to carb- and back again

Awhile back, I put on a Holley to replace my TBI, cause a rat chewed my wiring harness and it was the quickest way to fix it at the time. but as a Cali. resident you can get into a lot of trouble for doing that.
I wish I didn't have to do it tho, cause the carb blows the TBI out of the water, performance wise.
The main thing I like about the carb is the drivability. Part throttle I get the same response with about 1/8 throttle as I did with the TBI at 1/2 throttle. With the TBI on there, when I was in the hills, the trans was always downshifting and at 3500ft on level ground I had to give it so much pedal that it wouldn't stay in OD. With a carb none of these problems existed.I really would like to get my TBI dialed in so it works at least kind of as well as my carb. Is this even possible?

Someone who's been there with both TBI and carb please talk to me.

Thanks

Cali has always been **** like that, but can you put the TBI back on to get threw emissions then yank it an go back to carb? i dont imagine the emission fairy looks under the hood everyday do they. Az is like that in the for of smog crap equiptment, but 90+% of the inspectors wouldnt know an EGR valve from a Jack 'N Crack Hamburger. i dont much of anything about AT but someone must sell a skipshift eliminator or something to stop it??? Im currently polishing my stock TBI. I cant really say if theres a difference(since mines not running yet) but from the tech art. here in TGO it seems to gain you something.

Taking a TBI off and on again can be time consuming. And as for the emissions fairy, they don't look under your hood everyday, no. But sometimes they do in the form of random roadside inspections. I've never spoken to someone who's failed one of those but there can be a $20,000 max penalty for disabling smog equipment. There used to be a cop around here who'd look under guys hoods. Fortunately that a**hole is retired. Replacing a TBI with a holley is a violation thats VERY obvious.

I prefer the carb. But I don't think I've ever really tried a TBI that's working right. Someday I'd like to, then I can claim to know.
A lot of guys that don't want to, or don't know how to work on their TBIs go with a carb. Because out of the box, a 4bbl will out perform a stock TBI.
You could always try it and find out for yourself. It's not a simple task tho.
