$770.00 worth of mods

I am about to recieve about $770.00 in back pay from the military. I have a 91 firebird with the LO3, the only mods i have is a K&N air filter, B&M shift kit , and a flowmaster muffler. What i am looking for is some suggestions on what to my car with this money, I am really looking for bang for the buck. Any comments would be awsome. And if you know the end result please share thanks to all .... jason:hail:

I would say save up more and get a 350,but since we are looking at what you have not what you could have.Edelbrocke headers, full cat back exhuast ,and a 3.73 gear if you have enough left .That should set you up nice.Good luck

first make the car you have more enjoyable and upto snuff..

for 700:

new struts
new shocks
new suspension bushings (poly probly)
SFCs
Gears

depending on what you get there, you could have enough to do the following too:

strut tower brace
wonderbar
LCAs
Panhardbar

first thing though, anything worn or broken on your car ( steering parts, shocks, AC, powerdoor locks, ect) i would fix first..

I'd say get some gears & posi / new rear end. Then try and grab some used headers and if you have money left over make the rest of your exhaust 3" all the way. If you still have money give it to me because I'm so smart or get some used LCA's.

Good Luck

oh, i want to add...

look around. dont buy from any store or shop if you're tight on cash...

someone is always selling used parts cheap for these cars.... if you look...

i found a flowmaster exhaust for $25

found a TPI setup for $50 + shipping (but i didnt have teh money at the time.. being broke sucks)

just look around....

I agree on the look around - I'm the king of tight 'cause I have no money! I got a complete rear end for $125 - it was only a 3.08, but it was posi, and had 6 mo warranty. Gutted cat is free, Ultimate TBi mods (free), LT1 cam about $40 used, new TDS Steering Brace ($50 - makes a world of suspension difference), new poly bushings ($100 entire car) -

Just remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure - scout about for deals on "previously depreciated" goods.

Yeah LT1 cam is about $40...then you start buying tools, gaskets and fluids and crap and it really piles up...trust me.

This might be the wisest way to spend it, but spending it on heads/cam or gears/posi/exhaust is gonna prolly put a bigger smile on your face

Ohh me! Ohh me!

And yes, I agree, suspension work has to be the best way to spend your money especially if you don't have much done to the car yet. Why spend the money on performance when you can't get it to the ground?!

......I'm one to talk.....

best bang for the buck ......

1. 3:42 posi. i found a heavy duty zexel on ebay for 125. installation should go about 150-200.

2. headers to go with the upgraded exhaust. edelbrock t.e.s. go for around 350. incidentals maybe another 50-100.

3. vafpr. with the improved exhaust increasing airflow, there'll need to be a corresponding increase in fuel flow. top down solutions sells a complete kit for 85

Figure on mods that you're only going to spend money on once. IE: if you're planning an eventual 350 swap, don't buy parts for your 305 that aren't interchangeable. Suspension, gears, headers, move the battery to the rear. These are all things within your budget.
