pop, ping and stall...
same old 454TB w/ 55lb injectors onto 350 vortec.
upon a good throttle rompage she'll give a loud ping/stall; then jet off.
it should be running a bit rich (according to cheap air/fuel ratio gage) toying with AFPR but only blindly adjusting... (no fuel pressure gage)
error codes:
32. Fault in barometric pressure sensor circuit OR
Fault in exhaust gas recirculation valve diagnostic switch OR
Fault in electronic vacuum regulator valve
35. Idle speed can not be set to desired RPM
(IAC is bad and stuck open, blocked off with a gasket)
42. Fault at electronic spark timing circuit OR
Fault at direct ignition system OR
Fault at fuel cutoff relay circuit
first thing is probably timing... for i adjusted it back from being so advanced and now the short stall upon throttle turned to a ping.
anybody know of an article or step-by-step guide which goes through tuning/tweaking of TBI? such as... ("1.setup timing, 2.idle air 3.check codes 4.fuel pressure... etc") that way i know what to troubleshoot with each sinerario. right now i'm clueless on what else i can play with to get this engine running more smoothly.
any and all help is greatly appreciated.

this last test run not only did i get a loud 'POP' but it also killed my engine. there has to be a way to work this kink out of there...
ideas? anything...? anyone...?

definately timing.. advanced the timing about an inch above timing marker and it eleminated the harsh ping yet the annoying stall remains. should i try and advance more to correct? i didn't think it could/should be advanced so far... (unless timing mark is off...) what does 12* advanced look like? (with computer wire connected) about 2 inches ahead from timing marker? or should that be without the ESD wire connected?
what does adjusting fuel pressure do exactly? this old post...
"engine swap, a slight increase in pressure helps keep the car from running lean at WOT. The common mistake is to instantly increase pressure to 13psi or even more. In most cases
this will only hurt performance and fuel economy. If you try an AFPR the best method is to only increase from the stock setting in small increments until a drop in power is noticed."
hmm... well i don't know my stock pressure... so should i just adjust this thing untill power drop? in that case i seem to already be loosing power, for last night i raced my friends 305camaro w/ K&N and shift kit and he almost kept up! BEFORE i did the 454TB swap i could stomp his *** by a car-length or more... something is really screwed up and i need to find it.
is there a corralation with a high fuel pressure, rich running engine, and advanced timing? should i try backing off the pressure and inching up till i find a 'sweet spot'? i've never tweaked with an AFPR before... there has to be a process for tweaking out TBI... what do i adjust and in what order? the more i play around the worse this engine ends up runing.

hows it going?i have also came across some trouble with my custom afpr.i kept my original afpr unmodified so i would have a reference point to start tuning from, and went down to pick and pull and grabbed one out of another camaro.i adjusted my new afpr at a much higher setting although i hadn't a clue as to how much this would increase psi.the result of this was a hard initial start followed by chugging and then stalling.my second attempt yeilded similar results even though this time the adjustment was only 1/4 the amount of the first.since i am tuning blind as well, i would like to know if you experienced a large clunking sound in the front of the engine while trying to start the motor?this happend to me on my fist attempt along with my car not starting at all and no starter engagement.i have since installed my origional unmodified regulator and am going to wait on tuning the other until i have recieved more feedback and suggestions.if anyone has some tips i would be highly greatfull
