305 TB swap out with 4.3 V6 unit?
305 TB swap out with 4.3 V6 unit?
I know its not an F-body but I don't know who else to ask.
I have an 85 Monte Carlo with a 4.3 V6 auto. It had the motor rebuilt shortly before I bought (30K mi ago) and the trans(about 15K mi) but it runs crappy. No throttle responce, bogging, crappy, idle and no power. I'm thinking the throttle body needs to be cleaned out/rebuilt. If uses or can use the same unit used on the L03 then I can follow the instructions and peform the "ultimate" TBI mods to.
I work 60-70 hours a week so it be easier for me to buy one out of a bone yard, fix, and swap out on a day off.
Can this be done? Is it advisable? Any better ideas? Thanks in advance.

The answer is yes -- the TB used on the LO3 is the same as used on both the 305 and the 350. Notice that is said TB, not TBI. The difference among the 4.3/5.0/5.7 TBI units is that the injectors are all different because the engines are all different sizes.
So yes you can use an LO3 TBI, and yes you can do the ultimate mods -- you just have to make sure you use the injectors sized for the 4.3 v6.
With all that said -- it sounds like your problem is a vacuum leak. I suggest you perform all the engine troublehssoting & diagnostics before you blame the throttle body. If you don't have a good list of what to try, search on the web or check out a good auto repair book. You might also have multiple problems (vacuum leak, clogged fuel filter, tired ignition module, bad wires) so make sure you CAREFULLY step through the troubleshooting steps.
