PROM burning and the VAFPR

When my 350 gets here, I'm taking my car to get a new PROM burned while on the dyno by this company. Since it will be a custom chip, is it necessary to have the VAFPR or will simply making the stock FPR adjustable (per tech articles) do the job?

I've read that the VAFPR is simply just a "band-aid" for PROM burning, so why should I purchase a "band-aid" if I'm going in for surgery? (if that analogy works)

I will also be going to "cop car" injectors during this switch.

The simple answer is, try a static pressure first. Be sure to choose a pressure that will support your HP level and RPMs you plan to rev to. Then set the injector constant correctly and tune away. You will know if you need a vAFPR if your idle quality appears to be worse than it should be for your cam duration. Also, if the injectors are running async, your idle emissions could be worse (GM went to smaller injectors on the 454 TBI in the late years due to this reason).

Other than that, there is no reason to run a vAFPR when doing a full custom tune.

i would suggest vafpr is instead of tuning ecm. i added the vafpr to a modified engine with stock puter and later removed it when i went to programable ecm and started burning chips. along with that in went the larger injectors from 454 at 90 lbs. BTW i have one vafpr used (one month)and modified to fit and another new in box. new i paid $50 for each. send me email if interested.

I've tried both and won't be using a VacAFPR from here on out, unless dual TBI , kind of hard lowering the pulse width on 4 injectors for idle at 25psi of pressure.
What kind of 350 are we talking about, 200hp or 350?

300 HP

So the consensus is that I should just make mine adjustable, then give the car to the chip buring guys?
