Detonation

Hooked up winaldl to my 89 tbi and am getting incredible amounts of knock.. around 18 at idle all the way up to 170 when driving.. I tried bumping the fuel pressure up but it still seems to be no help.my gauge reads at about 16 psi.. could this be false knock.. and can an engine even run smoothly with that kind of knock??

What is your base timing set at and what grade fuel do you use. Use a higher octane fuel, decrease your base timing and re-scan and see what you get.

are the knock counts across the board? or in a few specific cells?

yeah, back your timing off a hair, i found that when i tried to go up to 8* even on 92 octane, i got tons of knock, but can run 6* all day on 87 <shrugs>

Dewy's right, 6* is pretty standard. My engine didnt knock with 8* when it was stock on 92 octane, but they're all different.

Also check the whole ignition system to make sure it's working properly.

ON MY WAY TO GET A NEW TIMING LIGHT MY ENGINE DECIDED TO DIE! still has oil pressure though, but some real loud nasty banging going on inside.. also with clouds of smoke behind car.. GUESS IT WASNT FALSE KNOCK, TIMING WAS AT 4 BTDC AND ON 93 OCTANE.. The engine mods were lt1 cam, 3 inch exhaust edlebrock intake, bored out tbi, underdrive pulleys, Open elemnt, but now that i think of it i switched the stock aircleaner housing back on for inspection before i took off tongiht...?needless to say im pissed off very greatly..
